Ashutosh is a Partner at SKV Law Offices, focusing on regulatory law and policy in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He advises domestic and international clients across the Supreme Court, High Courts, and APTEL on complex, high-stakes matters.

His work covers tariff determination, regulatory compliance, and contractual disputes, alongside significant experience in power sector M&A. He has been involved in landmark transactions, including advising on one of the earliest major Indian investments in Bhutan’s hydropower sector.

He was part of the team advising Tata Power on its renewable group captive project with Tata Steel, the largest in India at the time, which also received the ‘Deal of the Year 2023’ award from the Indian Business Law Journal.

Ashutosh combines deep regulatory expertise with a commercial mindset to deliver strategic, solution-oriented advice in complex legal environments.

Recent Key Assignments

Secured a landmark Supreme Court ruling for TPDDL mandating time-bound recovery of ~INR 6000 Cr in Regulatory Assets, with nationwide tariff and DISCOM impact.

Represented Tata Power before CERC in a force majeure claim for CGPL; advised on regulatory, environmental, and corporate issues.

Advised NTPC on a 50:50 JV with Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited for the Chhabra Thermal Power Plant.

Represented TPCL in acquiring a 40% stake in Khorlochhu Hydro (Bhutan) with Druk Green Power Corporation (Deal of the Year 2025, IBLJ).

Advised Tata Power Renewable Energy on a 966 MW solar-wind hybrid project with Tata Steel (Deal of the Year 2023, IBLJ).

Advised SEUPPTCL on transmission service agreements with Uttar Pradesh DISCOMs.

 

Represented Resurgent Power before UPERC in a shareholding change for Southeast UP Transmission Co.
